Joining a Sorority

I never thought I'd be a girl who joined a sorority. And when I say that I really mean it. All through high school I said I was never going to rush, and when I first got to college I didn't. Even this semester i had no intition of going through winter recruitment. Yet hear I am. A sorority girl.

This is what happened:

I was in class one day and the girl nest to me was on facebook. She had a picture up from her sorority and I commented on how it was a cute picture. Her response was, &OMG REALLY?!?! You want to take cute pictures too?!?! You want to be a Theta?!?! You should come to crafting tonight!!!& Next thing I know she's signing my up for crafting and telling me how much fun it will be and that we are making mugs. I got back to my dorm room and told my roommate hoping she would tell me that I shouldn't go. Instead she incouraged me to do it saying it would be a good way to meet more friends and get out of our dorm room.

So I went to crafting. And it wasn't terrible. It was actually kinda fun even though I'm terrible at crafting. My mug turned out looking like this:

While crafting people kept asking me if I was coming tomorrow. I just nodded and said &Yeah I think so!& but honestly I had no idea what tomorrow was. As we were leaving the girl who brought me said that I was coming to the party tomorrow and it was cocktail attire. Great now I have to get a dress. I got a dress, I went, I had a blast. Turns out that was technically pref night and the next day I got an email inviting me to Bid Day on Sunday. Let's insert a note here that my mom was a Theta so the second I decided to go to crafting I called her up and asked her what she thought about me joining and she was very suportive. So I called her and told her that I was going to go to Bid Day to accept my bid. Honestly, I'm still glad I went.

Bid Day was an experience like no other. It was a blast, I got to take cute pictures with my new sisters kiting and making those hand symbols that no one else knows how to do. I made a frame that turned out horrible but who cares! I got my first Theta t-shirt and a tote bag of Theta goodies.

Anyways now I'm going into my last week of being a new member. On Sunday I find out my BIG and next Thursday I get initiated. I'm honestly so happy. I love all the girls I've met, I've gone to my first event and had a blast, and I am really excited to become more involved in Theta.

Review: Plant Nanny App

We all know that its important to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. But drinking enough water isn't the easiest thing to do. As a college student I have many things to do each day and, lets face it, drinking water isn't normally a priority. Plant Nanny is an app that helps you drink plenty of water each day while being fun!

It honestly sounds like a stupid app, and when my friends told me about it I thought they were crazy. However, once you get started it's easy to get really into it. I can't count the amount of times I've told my friends, "I have to water my plant!!" and then proceded to drink water in order to do so.

I just finished growing my first plant, Devil's Ivy, and I'm starting my second one, Dandelion. You have the option to name your plants, but I just stuck with their plant name.

This app lets you know the amount of water you should drink every day based on your weight, hight, and activity level. Your plant starts out as a bud and every time you level up it grows a bit more. You level up by drinking aa certain amount of water. Once your plant is gorwn up you move it outside to the garden and start a new plant. The plants outside grow seeds and with the seeds you can buy things such as different plants, backgrounds, and pots for your plant.

Some health benefits of drinking water:

  • Energizes Muscles
  • Keeps skin looking good
  • Helps your kidneys function
  • Helps you stay focused
Stay hydrated!!

Happy New Years!!!

2015. A whole new year. An opportunity to start over or improve upon ourselves. There are a few exciting things I have to look forward to this year. I will finish my first year of college in May, in August I'll turn 20, and in September my cousin will be getting married. While it's not a long list I know there will be many more exciting things to come.

As a new year begins I have to think back on all the things that have occurred in the previous year. And as I do I come to realize I'm not the same person I was this time last year. Many big things happened in 2014, some good some bad, some unexpected some I had been waiting for.My girlfriend of a year and a half broke up and left me heartbroken. She's now dating someone else and I'm still trying to find out how to move on. I graduated from high school which was even more exciting than I expected. I started college 570 miles away from home. Which has been the best experience of my life. My cousin got engaged to a great guy. I've gained new friends. I've lost some old ones.  I've become more independent and I've grown to know myself. 2014 has been a wild ride with many ups and downs. But both the highs and lows in our lives make us who we are and shape us as people. I know that sounds like some bullshit people say in bad times but I think it's true.

I'm hoping that 2015 is a good year. But I hope that whenever bad moments come I remember they are temporary and if I get through them good times will come.

I'm terrible at making and sticking to my normal new years resolutions. But I'm going to try once again to make some and stick to them.

1. Read more. Reread. Read something new. Anything I can get my hands on.
2. Enjoy life and live it fully. Find happiness. Get excited about small things and big things.
3. Study and do well in school. Getting that degree is important to me.

Happy New Year's Day and I hope you have a great year!

Home for the Holiday’s: Part 1

I am back home in Atlanta!! Yay! Yesterday was a day full of traveling and now I’m sitting in my own room for the first time in 3 months.

Traveling yesterday was pretty exciting. It was the first time I’ve flown home by myself from school. Luckily, the St. Louis airport is much smaller than the Atlanta airport; so even though I didn’t know my way around it was impossible to get lost. There was a lot of waiting around for my flight because I got to the airport SUPER early. I love flying though and I love having the window seat. Watching take off and seeing the cities looking so tiny from the air is my favorite part!

The flight was so crowded, I swear the seats are closer together than they were just a few months ago when I flew home from St. Louis. That is honestly the worst part of flying- the amount of people. There were SO many!

Now I’m home.  I head back to school on Monday, but until then I’m crazy busy. Catching up with friends, celebrating Thanksgiving with family, writing a paper and studying for finals. My schedule is booked.

It’s a weird feeling being back that I can’t quite put into words. It is a very surreal feeling. But I’m happy to be back and too see everyone. Especially my dogs!! (Oh! And to get the chance to drive my car again!)

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Review: Taylor Swift's 1989

I have probably listened to this album over 100 times and I absolutely love it. Honestly this might be my favorite Taylor Swift album yet. But how can I pick when I think they are all pretty perfect.

1989 is Taylor’s fifth album and her first documented official pop album. This album sold 1.287 million in the first week. That’s pretty impressive.

I love every song on this album. Seriously. I love dancing like crazy to “Shake It Off” and I love the sweet ballad that is “This Love.”  However, my favorites list would have to be:

Welcome to New York
Blank Space
Style
Wildest Dreams

I was able to narrow it down to four and I think that’s the best I can do. I really can’t pick one.
I love “Welcome to New York” because I plan of living there one day and I think Taylor captures the feeling of moving to the city really well in her song.  I personally can see myself moving to New York when I listen to the song and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

“Blank Space” has my favorite music video I think I have ever seen. Taylor is funny and beautiful in it. I want to wear all her outfits in it. Also the lyrics are my favorite part of this song. It has one of my favorite lines in it: “cause darling I’m a nightmare dressed as a daydream.” If you haven’t seen the music video, go watch it now!

The lyrics along with the music are why I love “Style.” Yeah, I think it’s written about Taylor’s love affair with Harry Styles, but I love how her songs are so real for her. It puts so much more meaning behind the songs which is why she’s one of my favorite artists. The chorus is the best thing. Ever.

My love for “Wildest Dreams” is because it is currently so relatable to me. I may or may not be involved in a little fling right now. It’s definitely nothing that will last, which is what I feel the she means when she sings “I can see the end as it begins.”

This album is a hit and I recommend that everyone buys it and listens to it on repeat. I cannot wait for her world tour. Next October I plan on seeing her here in St. Louis. My excitement levels are SO high and it’s still a whole year away. I have loved Taylor Swift since the beginning and I’m blown away by this amazing album.

This Time of Year

It’s November. The weather is turning cold. It gets darker way earlier. All the leaves are falling.
I love the summer; it’s definitely my favorite season. I like warmth. But there is something so exciting about this time of year. Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming up! And my first semester of college is near its end!! I’m excited to be going home in two weeks for the first time since coming here. It will be nice even though college already feels like home.

While I do love this time of year, and it’s fun to fantasize about, this time of year comes with added stress and anxiety for me. School is getting busy, which puts more pressure on me to perform well. I want to do well on all my classes because it’s important to me. However, when there is so much work the stress gets to me and causes me to shut down. For example, on Friday I was supposed to get some studying done, but I was so overcome by stress and anxiety I just had to curl up in bed and I fell asleep before 10pm.

Another thing that causes me to be anxious around this time of year is the holidays. I struggle with an undiagnosed eating disorder, which also means I’ve never received any professional help or treatment for my destructive behaviors. I am working on recovering but it is a process. And during the holidays there is a lot of focus on the food and meals which is harder to deal with.

I am trying to stay positive this year though. There are so many things about Thanksgiving and Christmas and this time of year in general that I love and I don’t want that to be ruined. I have determination to not let my anxiety or eating disorder or anything else keep me from being happy and enjoying myself this season.
